Trades and title suggestions

A trade is a work package — a lot in French practice: Plumbing, Electrical, Earthworks. Title suggestions are the ready-made issue titles offered for each trade, so nobody types "craked tile" at 7am on a phone.

Required role: Project Manager (or Organization Admin) to add or edit. Any project member can view the lists.

The project owns its own trades​

Your organization keeps a curated trade list, and each project gets its own copy.

This matters because lot numbers are contractual and per project. The same trade is lot 01 on one project and lot 03 on another, and renaming it on one job must not rewrite the other.

Editing a trade here changes this project only. Editing the organization's list changes what new projects start from, and leaves existing projects alone. See Configure shared catalogs.

Manage the project's trades​

  1. Open the project's Settings and find Trades.
  2. To add one, select Add trade and enter:
    • Name — for example "Plumbing".
    • Code — the lot number for this project, for example 03.
    • Order — where it sits in pickers and reports.
  3. To change one, open it and edit the same fields.
  4. Save.

Result: the trade is available when logging an issue, assigning work to a company, and grouping a report by trade.

Two trades in the same project can't share a name.

Remove a trade​

  1. Open the trade and choose Delete.
  2. Confirm.

Result: the trade is removed from the project's list.

caution

Removing a trade doesn't retag work that already references it. Check whether any companies are attached to it, and whether saved report templates filter on it, before removing one mid-project.

Manage title suggestions​

Suggestions are attached to a trade and offered while someone types an issue title.

  1. Open the project's Settings and find Issue title suggestions.
  2. Select Add suggestion and enter the title, then pick the trade it belongs to.
  3. Save.

Result: on site, choosing that trade offers your standard wording. Builddar tracks which suggestions actually get used and surfaces the popular ones first.

tip

Write suggestions the way an inspector would say them out loud — "Cracked wall tile", not "Defect: tiling, wall, cracked". They're picked at speed on a phone, not read.

Suggestions are copied into the project with its trades, so a new project starts with your organization's standard wording already in place.

Edit or remove a suggestion​

Open the suggestion to change its wording or its trade, or delete it. Issues already created from a suggestion keep their titles — a suggestion is a starting point, not a link.
