Manage member roles
Required role: Organization Admin.
Change someone's organization role
- Open your organization's Members.
- Find the person and change their role to Admin, Member, or Guest.
- Save.
Result: the new role takes effect immediately.
Promoting someone to Admin gives them access to every project in the organization, including projects they were never added to, plus billing-adjacent settings like drawing credits. Use it sparingly.
Moving someone from Guest to Admin or Member consumes a seat. If you're at your seat limit, the change is refused.
Convert a guest into a member
An external contact who joins your company shouldn't have to be re-invited and re-added to every project.
- Open the member list and find the guest.
- Choose to convert them to a member.
- Pick the project role to apply to all the projects they already belong to — typically Collaborator.
- Confirm.
Result: they become a full organization Member, and every existing project membership they had is updated to the role you chose. Builddar tells you how many projects were updated.
Converting is not the same as re-inviting. It keeps their history and their project memberships intact — it only changes what they're allowed to do.
How organization and project roles combine
| Your organization role | What it gives you |
|---|---|
| Admin | Access to every project, regardless of project role. Full organization settings. |
| Member | Access only to the projects you're added to, with whatever project role you have there. |
| Guest | Access only to the projects you're invited to, company-scoped within them. |
Inside a project, what you can actually do is decided by your project role — Manager, Collaborator, or Guest. See Manage project members.
