Notifications overview

Builddar tells you when something needs your attention — an issue assigned to you, a mention in a comment, a document waiting for review, a report that finished generating.

Immediate or digest

Notifications arrive one of three ways:

  • Immediate — sent as it happens.
  • Daily digest — batched and sent once a day at the hour you choose.
  • Weekly digest — batched and sent once a week.

Some timings are fixed because the content demands it:

  • Mentions are always immediate — a mention is a question someone is waiting on.
  • Document activity always arrives in the daily digest.
  • Meeting notifications are always immediate — you act on them before the next meeting.
  • Assignments are immediate by default, and you can switch them to a digest.
note

Project invitations always send. They're how you find out a project exists — there's no preference that can silence them.

Personal preferences and project rules

Two layers decide what reaches you:

  1. Your preferences — what you want, set once and applied everywhere. See Notification settings.
  2. Project rules — what a project manager decided the project needs. A category can be set to Off, Optional, or Required on a project.

Project rules win:

Project settingWhat happens
OffThe category is suppressed for everyone on the project, whatever their preferences.
OptionalYour personal preferences decide. This is the default.
RequiredThe category is forced on for everyone, overriding a personal opt-out.
note

Even when a project forces a category on, timing stays yours — a required category can still reach you in your daily digest rather than immediately.

Watching an issue

Beyond the categories, you can watch a specific issue to be notified about its activity even when it isn't assigned to you. See Watch an issue.

Escalations

Separately from personal notifications, a project can send escalation digests to contractors about work approaching or past its due date. See Escalation rules.
