Update an issue's status
An issue's status shows where it is in your project's workflow — for example Open, In Progress, Completed, Validated, or Rejected. Moving an issue to a new status is how your team drives it to resolution.
Required role: Manager, Collaborator, or Guest — any of them can change status, within the transitions their role is allowed to make (see below).
Change the status
- Open an issue.
- Choose the new status. Builddar only offers the statuses you're allowed to move to from the current one.
- If the transition requires it, add a comment or make sure a photo is attached.
- Confirm.
Result: the issue moves to the new status. The change is recorded in the issue's activity history, with the date and who made it.
Why some statuses aren't offered
The available next statuses depend on your project's workflow, which defines:
- Which moves are allowed — you can only go from the current status to a status the workflow connects it to.
- Who can make each move — each transition can be restricted to certain roles. Even though Guests can change status in general, they can only make the transitions their role is permitted to.
- What each move requires — a transition can require a comment, an attached photo, or a completion date before it's allowed.
If a status you expect isn't offered, it's because one of these rules is blocking it. See Customize the issue workflow to change the rules (Manager or Organization Admin).
Some statuses record a date automatically — for example, moving an issue to a completed or validated status stamps when it happened and who did it.
To move several issues to the same status at once, use bulk update — all selected issues must currently share the same status. See Bulk actions on issues.
