Create an issue

Creating an issue records a quality defect or task so your team can track it to resolution.

Required role: Manager or Collaborator. Guests can't create issues.

Prerequisites: the project must be active (issues can't be created while a project is in setup mode), and it needs at least one zone to place the issue in.

Create the issue

1. Open the project's Issues area and select New Issue.
2. Fill in the required fields:
   • Title — a short description of the problem (for example, "Cracked tile in Room 204").
   • Location — choose the zone the issue is in. If you pick a drawing, its zone is set automatically.
   • Detected on — the date the issue was found.
   • Due date — when it should be resolved.
3. Optionally add:
   • Description — more detail.
   • Assigned company and assigned person — who's responsible (the person must belong to the assigned company).
   • Trade and Phase.
   • High priority — mark urgent issues.
   • Photos — attach before photos of the defect.
   • A pin on a drawing — see Pin issues on a drawing.
4. Save.

Result: the issue is created with an issue number and the project's starting status (usually Open). It appears in the issue list and, if pinned, on the drawing.

Title, location (zone), detected on, and due date are always required. Your project may require more fields — a Manager can make description, assigned company, assigned person, trade, phase, drawing, or a photo required too. See Customize the issue form.

tip

Builddar can suggest a due date based on priority — for example, high-priority issues default to a shorter deadline than normal ones. A Manager sets these defaults in the issue form settings.

Customize what issues require

Managers can tailor the new-issue form to your project's needs.

Required role: Project Manager or Organization Admin (and the custom issue form must be enabled on your plan).

1. Open the project's Settings and find the issue form configuration.
2. Toggle which optional fields are required when creating an issue: description, assigned company, assigned person, trade, phase, drawing, or a photo.
3. Optionally set the default due-date windows for high-priority and normal issues.
4. Save.

Result: the new-issue form enforces your rules for everyone on the project.

note

Title, zone, detected on, and due date can never be turned off — they're always required. Turning on "assigned person required" automatically requires "assigned company" too.
