Quick start

This walkthrough takes you from a new account to your first tracked issue. It should take around 10 minutes. Along the way you'll create a project, add the minimum it needs to go live, activate it, and log your first issue.

Before you start: you need a Builddar account. If you don't have one yet, see Sign up and log in. When you sign up on your own, Builddar creates an organization for you and makes you its admin — which is exactly what you need for the steps below.

The big picture

Everything you track in Builddar lives inside a project. A new project starts in setup mode — you build out its essentials, then activate it so your team can start logging issues. Here's the path:

  1. Create a project.
  2. Add at least one zone and one company (the minimum to go live).
  3. Activate the project.
  4. Create your first issue.

Step 1 — Create a project

Required role: Organization Admin.

  1. From your organization's project list, select New Project.
  2. Enter a name for the project.
  3. Create it.

Result: the project is created in setup mode. It's not active yet — that's normal.

See Create a project for the full options.

Step 2 — Add the essentials

A project needs at least one zone and one company before it can be activated. (Adding members and drawings is recommended too, but not required to go live.)

Add a zone

Zones are the locations in your project — buildings, floors, rooms, areas.

  1. Open the project's Zones area.
  2. Add a zone (for example, a building or a floor) and give it a name.

Result: your project has a place to attach issues to. See Build the zone hierarchy for structuring larger projects.

Add a company

Companies are the contractors and firms working on the project. Issues are often assigned to a company.

  1. Open the project's Companies area.
  2. Add a company and give it a name.

Result: you can now assign work to a company.

tip

Also invite your teammates (Members) and upload your Drawings now if you have them. They're recommended for real projects — see Manage project members and Upload drawings.

Step 3 — Activate the project

While a project is in setup mode, only organization admins can work in it and issues can't be created. Activating it opens it up to your team.

Required role: Organization Admin.

  1. In the project, open Settings (or the project overview).
  2. Select Activate.

Result: the project becomes active. If activation is blocked, Builddar tells you what's missing — most often a zone or a company, which you added in Step 2.

caution

Activation requires at least one zone and at least one company. If either is missing, add it and try again.

Step 4 — Create your first issue

Now the core loop begins — logging and tracking quality issues.

Required role: Manager or Collaborator. (Guests can't create issues.)

  1. Open the project's Issues area and select New Issue.
  2. Enter a title describing the problem (for example, "Cracked tile in Room 204").
  3. Set the location — pick the zone you created (and, if you uploaded a drawing, pin the issue on it).
  4. Optionally add a description, priority, due date, an assigned company, or photos.
  5. Save.

Result: your first issue appears in the project's issue list with a status. You can now assign it, comment on it, attach photos, and move it through your workflow.
